Hilda M Hewitt (Clerical Assistant)
The friendly voice at the end of the telephone who helps with all your queries and books in all your samples. Born in Liverpool (a Scouser) and educated at Notre Dame Commercial College. Various secretarial positions, the last in Liverpool as PA to Finance Manager, British Leyland, Liverpool. Moved to Swansea in 1976. PA to Plant Engineering Manager, Ford Motor Co. Commenced work in EPSRC National Mass Spectrometry Centre in May 1992.

Dr Ann P Hunter (MS Analyst)
Graduated from University of Wales, Swansea with BSc (HONS) in Chemistry and Analytical Science in 1990; PhD in “Mass spectrometric, chromatographic and electrophoretic methods for the characterization of biomolecules” with Prof. D.E.Games, Mass Spectrometry Research Unit, Dept. of Chemistry, University of Wales, Swansea 1990-1994. PDRA in Mass Spectrometry Facility in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, School of Pharmacy, University of Washington, Seattle USA 1994 – 1996. PDRA in Oxford Glycobiology Institute, University of Oxford 1996-1998. Joined the EPSRC NMSSC as a PDRA in May 1998. Became a part-time Experimental Officer in May 2002.

Mr Gareth Llewellyn (MS Analyst)
Graduated from Southampton University in 1978 with a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Chemistry. Began working at Swansea University in 1979 as a technician in the NMR section. Research technician in organic chemistry from 1990 to 2000 working on reaction kinetics and carbohydrate chemistry. Graduated in 1991 with M.Phil. from Swansea University on the chiral integrity of synthetic peptides. Ran the Chemistry Department Mass Spectrometry service in 1996-7. Joined the NMSSC in 1998 as a technician and became Experimental Officer in 2002. Currently working part time.

Maria Moruzzi (Secretarial Assistant)
Joined at the end of 2007 as a Secretarial Assistant . Currently working part time (Wednesday and Thursday).

Mrs Bridget K Stein (Service Manager)
Graduated from University of Cape Town with B.A.- B.Sc. in Chemistry and African Languages in 1979. After a year of secondary school teaching, saw the mass spectrometry light and operated the Cape Town university chemistry department MS service for 5 years. Moved to Bloemfontein Hospital for a two year part-time B.Med.Sci (Hons) degree in Analytical Toxicology/Pharmacology while working with Mass Spectrometry, then returned to Cape Town to work in the Government National Health and Forensic Laboratory as a Principal Analyst. In 1992, a one year contract was offered at the Technische Universität in Munich, Germany, following which an MS analyst post was vacant in Swansea in 1993. Assumed management of the service in 1998.

Dr Roger D Stein (Analyst Programmer)
Having spent 9 years working in the Insurance (Pensions) and Local Authority (Investments) sectors on computer related jobs, Dr Stein obtained a BSc and PhD in Computer Science at Swansea University (PhD title - "An Intelligent Tax Model" - the application of Artificial Intelligence techniques to tax problems). This was followed by 10 years as a Lecturer in Computer Science (mainly Software Development and Database Systems) followed by 7 years working in the university's Administrative Computing Unit leading a team of programmers on several projects to update the university's administrative systems. In parallel with the current Analyst/Programmer position in the National Mass Spectrometry Centre Dr Stein holds a part-time position as a Senior Tutor in the Computer Science department.

Dr Christopher M Williams (MS Analyst)
Graduated in 1998 with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of Wales Swansea. In 2003 completed a Ph.D. from the University of Wales Swansea, in the Mass Spectrometry Research Unit, under the supervision of Professor Gareth Brenton. Spent 12 months working on a CEFIC funded project in the Biomolecular Analysis Mass Spectrometry Facility (BAMS) as a PDRA before joining the EPSRC NMSSC in October 2005 as an Experimental Officer.

Dr Mark F Wyatt (Research Officer)
Graduated in 1997 with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemistry with Industrial Chemistry from the University of Liverpool, which included a year spent at the Chemical Services laboratory at BNFL Springfields site. Twelve months were then spent in Analytical Services at Eli Lilly in Speke. Completed Ph.D. in 2002, entitled “Analysis of Acrylic Polymers by MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry” from the IRC in Polymer Science and Technology at the University of Durham. The project was supervised by Prof. Randal Richards, in collaboration with Dr Tony Jackson at ICI Technology. Joined the NMSSC in 2002 as a Research Officer to develop the new MALDI-TOF service.
